Sedalia Girl Scout Leaders Rally Community to Save Camp Sacajawea

The Girl Scouts of America organization has been dedicated to empowering girls through leadership experience. They may be very well known for selling Girl Scout Cookies, but they do far more than that by earning badges and volunteering in the community. Unfortunately one of the locations where Girl Scouts in Sedalia learn may be going away. The Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland recently voted to divest of Camp Sacajawea. however they have given the Girl Scouts in the Sedalia area a chance to save the Camp and utilize it for future generations.

Camp Sacajawea has been used by local Girl Scouts since 1943 and is used for camping, monthly meetings, special events and storage for equipment and supplies.

Kim Horstman and Linda Henderson of the Girl Scout Service Unit #718 are putting together a committee to save Camp Sacajawea.  They ask that you attend a meeting on Tuesday, August 13 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Camp Sacajawea. They are hoping to develop a sustainable plan to retain the property and must submit a plan to the Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland by October 18.

Anne Soots, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland, has laid out the needed requirements for the volunteer/community property retention plans. Along with board members, she plans to attend the meeting to hear the discussion and progress being made.
