The very first Sedalia New Year's Day Parade may have had cold conditions on Wednesday (Jan. 1), but 16 units braved the elements to showcase their groups and organizations.

Parade organizer Terry Cockrell said he thought the parade was good, considering he only worked on it for about a week after the Sedalia Chamber of Commerce tried three times to make it happen.

There were about 100-200 spectators that lined Ohio Street to watch the participants.

Spectators commented that a winter weather advisory was in effect, but some of them wanted to be a part of this special New Year's Day parade to continue their holiday spirit and maybe start a new tradition.

Cockrell reminded people that it will be warmer in July for the Good Ole Fashioned 4th of July and parade and enjoyed putting it on and thanked all those who came out and braved the elements.
