Police reports for July 1, 2016

Sedalia Police responded to a house fire at 1620 E. 9th on Thursday night around 9:35 p.m. The officer noticed smoke coming from the roof area, all around the house. The Sedalia Fire Department then arrived and extinguished the blaze, which is being considered suspicious by fire personnel.

A Casey's employee was assaulted around 2 a.m. Friday, July 1 at 1601 E. Broadway, as the employee was taking out the garbage. The victim was assaulted by two suspects, causing injuries to the employee's face and chest. PCAD later arrived, but the victim refused treatment. The suspects were not identified in the report.

A Lincoln Nebraska man, Spencer A. Watson, 17, was arrested and charged with 1st degree Sodomy, 1st degree Child Molestation and Sexual Misconduct around 12:47 a.m. Friday morning at a Sedalia address. According to the report, a witness reported sexual contact between an adult and a juvenile at a Sedalia residence. Investigation is ongoing.

On Wednesdy morning, Sedalia Police arrested Karen K. Thomas, 54, Sedalia, for Driving While Suspended or Revoked, after police responded to an accident at Clinton Road and 32nd Street. One of the drivers, Thomas, was confirmed to be revoked. She was transported to the Pettis County Jail, booked and released with a court date of July 20. She was issued a citation for Driving While Revoked.

Miranda A. French, 19, Sedalia, was arrested for shoplifting after police responded to a theft in progress at Dollar General, 713 E. Broadway. She allegedly left the store without paying for $11.89 of hair products. She was issued a Municipal summons and a court date of Aug. 3.

Clinton James Carney, 27, Sweet Springs, was arrested Thursday at 2:43 a.m. At Broadway and Curry after a traffic stop. The temporary license displayed on the vehicle was allegedly forged and expired. Carney was transported to the Pettis County Jail.

Aran T. Cantrell, 21, Sedalia, was arrested for Failure to Appear-misdemeanor on an active warrant of of Benton County. He was observed entering a residence in the 300 block of E. 2nd and later found hiding in a closet. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail with no bond and a court date to be determined.

Sandra L. Sweet, 58, Florence, Mo., was arrested Wednesday for shopllifting at Hobby Lobby, 4125 W. Broadway. She allegedly concealed items in her purse and was stopped by store security after she passed by the point of sale. Advised of her rights, she gave consent to check her purse and the items were recovered and returned. A summons was issued along with a court date of July 20.

Hobby Lobby, 4125 W. Broadway, reported the loss of $50 of jewelry on Thursday morning. There are no suspects in the case.

Police took a theft report at Wal-Mart, 3201 W. Broadway, involving two suspects who stole $270 worth of property.

Sedalia Wal-Mart reported the theft of a bottle of liquor on Sunday afternoon. Store security witnessed the suspect leave the store on foot, running east, where a blue SUV allegedly picked him up near McDonald's. The SUV was later stopped in the 800 block of S. Limit, where the juvenile admitted to stealing the $31.97 bottle of liquor. The juvenile was transported to the Sedalia Police Department and later released to his adult sister.

Police took a report of a stolen mountain bike on Thursday morning. It was white with a red pin stripe worth $600. It was sitting outside the apartment and stolen sometime between 6 and 11 a.m. June 29.

A two-vehicle injury accident occurred Thursday at 5:15 p.m. at Missouri and Pettis involving a 2005 Honda Civic and a 2004 Mazda, when one vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with the other, striking a utility pole in the process. Witnesses said the eastbound vehicle that failed to stop was traveling at a high rate of speed. The Mazda was later towed from the scene.
