Kids, when I was young, I have memories of stuff that I did that would surely make most responsible mothers and fathers blush, or at the very least shake their heads and look disapprovingly at me.  While I was never a real rebel or a person to get in trouble, I guess things were just different in the 80s and 90s.

I remember standing up in the front seat while my mother was driving a car somewhere. She told me to sit down and buckle up, but I thought I didn't need to because I was from another planet.  You can't make this stuff up.  I also was a kid who was a late learner when it came to bicycles.  I was not very good at it at first, and the amount of times I fell over or hurt myself are myriad.  I never wore a helmet, I never wore pads, and I always, always hurt myself.

Nowadays, parents are totally much more aware of things they need to do to keep their kids safe.  No more toys with sharp edges, no more running in the street and none of any of that malarkey.

The police definitely take notice of this stuff. You could often get in trouble for not wearing a seat belt, but if your child isn't in the right seat, that can be a ticket, too.  So make sure you stop by and get a free check up with the Sedalia Kiwanis.  They'll be having a child seat safety event on June 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  They'll have specialists there to help you get those car seats in right and securely.   They'll also do a bicycle safety check from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  All of this will be done at the main branch of the Third National Bank on West Broadway.

So, stop by, bring the kids, and be safer than I was.  Maybe some of those childhood injuries are why  I'm so goofy as an adult.

Safely yours,
Behka
