Well folks, I got the chance to get to talk to Amy Epple, who is the Recreation Superintendent for the Sedalia Parks.  She's definitely a busy lady getting a lot of great stuff in line for you and your family this season.

Let's go over a quick list of just some of the stuff the Parks and Rec Department has going for you guys.

Art in the Park is for kids age seven to 11 who are interested in or enjoy art.

The kids will enjoy creating a few different pieces of art outdoors at Liberty Park.  Wear a smock or old clothes, something you don't mind getting paint on.  They'll provide lunch and your supplies. Pre-registration is required by July 5; cost is $8.00 child.

The Superkid Triathlon is coming up for Beginners and Experts.

Each kid will swim 200 yards, bike 5 miles, and run 2 miles. They'll get to win prizes, and best of all, get outdoors and moving. Register by June 21 so you can get a commemorative shirt. The triathlon's at Centennial Park beginning at 8:00 a.m., check in is at 7:30 a.m. They'll start and finish at Centennial Pool.

The Concert Band will perform this summer.

The Concert Band will perform Thursday evenings (June 20, 27, July 4, 11, 18, 25) at Convention Hall in Liberty Park from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. It's free admission.

There's also a special Mermaid Party.

This is a cool event for preschool through first grade or so.  They'll have an underwater treasure hunt, pool crafts, a mermaid telling a story, snacks and swimming. The Little Mermaid Pool Party will be held Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Centennial Pool from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. The cost for that is $8.00 per child, and that's the cost to get in the pool, supplies and the snack.

The Story Book Trail will be fun for your whole family.

Enjoy reading, exercising and family time all in one! Families are encouraged to get out and go read with mother nature. This is a great event for all to enjoy. During each Story Book Trail time frame, a fun story will be displayed along a trail. As you walk/bike/run along the trail, you can stop at each page to find out what happens next!  The next story will run on June 24 - 30 at Katy Park.

If you wanna keep up with all the Sedalia Parks and Recreation are doing (good luck!), you can check them out on the web at sedaliaparks.com  or you can call the office at 660-826-4930.

Recreationally yours,

Behka
