Sedalia-Pettis County United Way Fights Poverty Through the Community

The Sedalia-Pettis County United Way has tackled the struggles of poverty with the help of the local community.

United Way operates by their 4 Focus Areas: education, income, health, and safety net services. Each Focus Area provides support to children to help assist them with daily needs or services that aren't available due to low incomes.

In 2016:

39 received graduation assistance and safe housing
315 received Buddy Packs weekly, (a type of food source distributed on weekends)
1876 children were provided with school supplies
1806 students were provided with the opportunity in leadership and life skills

"Our funding is invested directly back into the community into our service providers," says Staci Harrison, executive director of the Sedalia-Pettis County United Way. "The cycle of poverty and the steps that we are trying to take to allow our community to thrive, not one organization can do that by themselves."

Sedalia-Pettis County United Way works with major organizations to further impact the needs of individuals in Pettis County including: Meals on Wheels, Foodbank of Central and Northeast Missouri, American Red Cross, Boy and Girl Scouts of America, and many more.
