The following Sedalia Police crime reports are from the afternoon of Oct. 14, 2013.

Sedalia police investigate a reported shooting this morning

Just before 3:00 this morning, Sedalia police responded to a residence in the 1400 block of South Kentucky on a report of a male suspect shooting a female victim with a gun. Upon arrival, officers arrested 34-year-old Alfonso Kirkwood of the residence, who reportedly shot a female victim with a BB gun while she was holding an infant. The police report also states Kirkwood would not unlock the door when they arrived, and officers had to force entry into the residence. At the time of the police report, Kirkwood was on 24-hour hold in the Pettis County Jail on weapons related charges, six counts of child endangerment and resisting arrest.

Man arrested on drug related charges Sunday night

At 10:46 Sunday night, Sedalia police stopped a vehicle at Broadway and Harding for traffic violations. A passenger, 27-year-old Richard Batzel, fled the vehicle and was apprehended a short time later. The police report states Batzel was found to be in possession of a schedule 4 drug (Clonazepam) that he did not have a prescription for, and was also in possession of drug paraphernalia. At the time of the police report, he was on 24-hour hold at the Pettis County jail pending drug related charges and charges of resisting arrest.

Teen arrested for property damage Friday night at Woods

Around 7:45 Friday night, Sedalia police were dispatched to Woods Supermarket on a property damage complaint. According to the police report, 18-year-old Dakota Johnson of Sedalia, pushed over a Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle that was parked in the parking lot, causing an estimated $2500 in damage. Johnson was arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail where she was placed on 24-hour hold pending formal charges of property damage and tampering with a motor vehicle.

Man arrested for violating a city ordinance Saturday

Just after 4:00 Saturday morning, Sedalia police arrested 26-year-old Carlos Staten who was walking in the middle of the roadway at 7th and Vermont in violation of city ordinance. An investigation revealed Staten was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Staten was arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail and placed on 24-hour hold pending formal charges.

Sedalia man arrested on warrants Friday morning

At 8:18 Friday morning, Sedalia police were dispatched to the probation and parole office on a suspect with two warrants. Arrested at the scene was 43-year-old Paul Williams of Sedalia. Williams was transported to the Pettis County jail pending bonds on the warrants of $1000.

Marshall man arrested for hit and run accident with a utility pole

Around 2:00 Saturday morning, the Sedalia police department was advised that someone had knocked down a utility pole at 6th and Emmitt. Following an investigation, officers located the suspect,  33-year-old Michael Mortimer of Marshall, who had reportedly left the scene. Mortimer was arrested and taken to the Pettis County jail and placed on 24-hour hold pending charges of leaving the scene of an accident.

Man assaulted with pepper spray this morning

At 9:35 this morning, a victim in the 1000 block of East 7th reported an assault to the Sedalia police department. According to the victim, there was a knock on his door, and he was sprayed with pepper spray when he answered it. There was no information on a suspect.

Thieves target a home under repair and steal tools

A large amount of tools were reported stolen from a house under repair in the 1300 block of South Grand this morning. According to the complainant, thieves entered the home under repair and stole over $1000 worth of tools. There are no suspects.

Wiring stripped from a basement on East 5th

The owner of a rental home in the 500 block of East 5th reported thieves entered the home and tore the wiring out of the basement. The damage estimate was placed at $2500. There was no information on possible suspects.
