A 21-year-old Sedalia man was arrested on May 11 on a kidnapping charge after he allegedly took his child from the mother's residence. Police were dispatched just after 6 p.m. to the 700 block of E. 13th St on the kidnapping report. The suspect, Wayne A. Gravitt, was locate in the 100 block of Villa Drive. Sedalia Police and deputies with the Pettis County Sheriff's Office made contact with Gravitt, who was taken into custody. The child was returned to the mother.


Police were called May 11 to 13th and Ohio after the Pettis County Ambulance District radioed that someone threw an object at one of their ambulances. The ambulance was transporting a patient at the time and could not remain at the scene. The ambulance crew reported possible damage around one of the LED lights on the ambulance.


Sedalia Police were dispatched on May 10 to 6th and Ohio when a caller reported that a man was walking down the street yelling and threatening to kill people. Police say they found the suspect in the 200 block of E. 6th Street banging on the door of an elderly woman. The man was allegedly cursing and demanding that the woman come out of her house. Police arrested 50-year-old Jesse Robert Smith and took him to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released on municipal charges of Peace Disturbance.


Sedalia Police are investigating a vehicle fire from last weekend as an arson. Police responded to 5th and Vermont for the fire on May 7. They say a 2016 Honda CRV was heavily damaged in the fire, which was extinguished by the Sedalia Fire Department.
