Sedalia Police Reports 10-27-16

Sedalia Police arrested Samuel Ernest Rayburn, 33, homeless, on four charges just after midnight Thursday in the 1300 block of S. Harrison. Rayburn was charged with tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest for a felony, operating a motor vehicle with no valid license, and failure to appear upon arrest or summons after police responded to the area on a vehicle theft report. The vehicle was parked on the road when a subject in the victim's house heard it start up, then noticed it was missing. Officers later spotted the vehicle, and a short pursuit followed. The driver was apprehended and transported to the Pettis County Jail. The stolen vehicle was later returned to its owner, the report said.

Kevin A. Murray, 35, Sedalia, was arrested for shoplifting after he was followed from a retail clothing store (3115 W. Broadway) Wednesday night. He was apprehended at Ruth Ann Drive and Broadway by police. He allegedly tried on clothing in the changing room, then left without paying. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail.

Carlos Alberto Melgar, 23, Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended after a traffic stop for no license plate lights at 20th and Ohio Monday night. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail.

Daniel Wayne Neth, 34, Sedalia, was arrested after Sedalia Police responded to a verbal disturbance at El Espolon, 2400 S. Limit, Tuesday night. Neth was wanted on a Benton County warrant. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail.

Paul N. Waller, 57, Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended after a traffic stop for having license plates on his Toyota that belonged on a Pontiac Monday night at 16th and Washington. Waller was transported to the Pettis County Jail on a $533.50 bond with a court date of Dec. 7.

Taylor Reed Whiting, 31, Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended after a traffic stop for improper lane change (no signal) at Ohio and Broadway at 5:02 a.m. Friday. Whiting was transported to the Pettis County Jail with a court date of Jan. 4.

Robert R. Dixon, 56, Jefferson City, was arrested on a Cole County warrant for Failure to Appear-Misdemeanor on Wednesday. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail on a $200 cash bond.

Johnathon Stewart Griffin, 18, Sedalia, was arrested on a warrant at 600 S. Limit late Wednesday night. His bond was set at $150.

Ezra Scott Cowan, 17, Pettis County, was arrested on a Failure to Appear-Misdemeanor (Pettis County warrant) after a traffic stop at 16th and Limit late Wednesday night. His bond was set at $150.

Police took a theft report that occurred from a locked vehicle in the 1900 block of W. 10th Wednesday. Taken was a laptop valued at $600. There are no suspects.

Police took a theft report that occurred in the 1700 block of S. Carr between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 5:38 a.m. Wednesday. Taken was a .357 revolver, valued at $840, from an unlocked SUV. There are no suspects.

Kohls, 4300 Wisconsin Ave., reported the theft of a $56 shirt from the store on Monday afternoon.

Police took a burglary report in the 100 block of W. 3rd Tuesday morning. The victim said her passenger door was found open, her glove box broken and $70 of items were stolen from her vehicle. There are no suspects.

Police took a stolen bike report in the 1200 block of S. Stewart Tuesday evening. The bike was taken between 10 a.m. Sunday and midnight Tuesday.

Police investigated a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Clarendon Road Tuesday that involved a 2012 Dodge truck and a 2013 Yamaha motorized scooter. According to the report, Johnny D. Weller, 58, and his passenger had stopped to allow a northbound vehicle to turn left into the SFCC parking lot when he was struck from behind by the truck, driven by 26-year-old Ashton K. Barton. Barton told police he didn't see Weller and his scooter until it was too late. Weller complained of rib injuries but refused treatment. Both he and his passenger were thrown from the scooter.

And the Pettis County Sheriff's Department has reported that Jaylin Freeman was arrested on an active warrant Wednesday. The arrest occurred at 100 Roadrunner Court on the SFCC campus. Freeman was transported to the Pettis County Jail.
