Sedalia Police were called to the lobby of Bothwell Regional Health Center on the afternoon of September 29 when it was reported that a man and woman carrying weapons were fighting.According to a Sedalia Police Report, witnesses in the parking lot claimed the man had a knife and that the suspects had a 12 gauge shotgun and 38 snub nose. Police found the man and woman and it was discovered that the item in the man's hand was a silver cell phone that belonged to the woman. The woman said that there was no physical altercation, and that she was just trying to get her phone back. The man gave the woman her phone, minus the SIM card. Police checked the suspects and weapons through their computer and did not report making any arrests. The individuals were not named by Sedalia Police.


A man with two active Sedalia Police Department warrants was arrested September 29. During the arrest, police discovered a bag containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine. Sedalia Police say that 50-year-old Miguel Zaragoza was riding a bicycle when he was stopped in the area of West Main and North Missouri. According to police, a field test on the substance showed a positive result for methamphetamine. Zaragoza was arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail. Charges of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) are being sought.


Police arrested an 18-year-old Sedalia man on the afternoon of September 29 after responding to a report of shoplifting at Woods. According to Sedalia Police, the suspect had left the store before the arrival of officers, and was said to be heading south on Marvin Avenue on a skateboard. Police located and arrested 18-year-old Devon Quick and say that the stolen items were recovered. Police say charges have been referred to the City Prosecutor.


Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 1400 block of South Ohio around 7:30 a.m. on September 29 on a report of property damage. A report was made of damage to a black 2014 Ford Fusion while it was parked on the roadway in front of the residence. Scratches on both sides of the car were reported. The damage is said to have occurred between 10 p.m. on September 28 and 7:28 a.m. on September 29. There were no suspects or witnesses to the incident.


Just after 1 a.m. on September 29, Sedalia Police were called to Break Time at 808 East Broadway for a report of theft. An employee claimed that a subject ran out of the store with a 12-pack of Budweiser without paying.


At 1:11 p.m. on September 29, police responded to the police department lobby regarding a claim of a domestic assault not in progress. A female victim claimed her boyfriend assaulted her. Police observed minor injuries and attempted to locate the suspect, but was met with negative contact.


Sedalia Police went to an address in the 200 block of South Quincy Avenue to conduct a warrant check at 7:25 a.m. on September 29. After arriving, police ran information on 24-year-old Donald R. Lutjen through dispatch. Dispatch advised that the suspect had four possible failure to appear warrants out of Pettis County. The warrants were confirmed hard copy a short time later. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail.


On September 29 at 6:35 p.m., Police responded to the 700 block of East 15th Street for a report of a disturbance. Upon contact with one of the parties involved, information was gathered that was given to dispatch, which advised that the suspect had a possible warrant out of Henry County. A short time later the warrant was confirmed. 38-year-old Angela R. Paquette was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail.


On September 29, Sedalia Police were dispatched to Broadway and Industrial in reference to two abandoned children's bicycles. The bicycles, which were laying in the roadway, were picked up and taken to the bike shed.


On September 28 at 3:15 p.m., Officer Benner noticed black smoke coming from a building at 100 South Ohio Avenue. Dispatch contacted the Sedalia Fire Department and PCAD for response to the apparent fire. After about an hour, Sedalia Fire was able to get the fire under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State of Missouri Fire Mashall's Office.
