Sedalia Police officers conducted a warrant check in the 400 block of West 6th Street Tuesday morning (Jan 31). Officers made contact with a resident at the front door, who said she would bring the suspect to the front door. While officers waited, the suspect attempted to escape out of a side window on the house. When that didn't work, the suspect attempted to run out the back door, but saw an officer, and went back inside. Police then took the suspect, 32-year-old Tonya J. Burcham into custody. Dispatch confirmed that Burcham had four warrants. Burcham was arrested for the warrants, including resisting arrest, and being a fugitive from justice. She was placed on a 24-hour hold in the Pettis County Jail.


Around 1:45 Tuesday afternoon (Jan 31), Sedalia Police officers were made aware of a woman at Wal-Mart, who had a felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance. A man was also with her. Officers made contact with the two subjects and checked their information through dispatch. Both subjects had felony warrants. The woman, 18-year-old Jessica Rose Kleine, had a $5,000 bond, cash or surety. The man, 35-year-old Dustin Alan Lappat, of Otterville, had a probation violation warrant with a $4,000 cash bond. Officers arrested both subjects and transported them to the Pettis County Jail.


Just before 9:00 Tuesday morning (Jan 31), Sedalia police officers conducted a traffic stop near Liberty Park, for a vehicle that was speeding. Officers relayed the driver's information to dispatch and a failure-to-appear warrant was confirmed. The driver, 18-year-old Orlando Cano-Romero, was arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail, with a cash bond of $150.00.


Sedalia Police took a theft report in the 1300 block of South Ohio Avenue on Tuesday (Jan 31). The victim stated he had a storage unit near East 17th Street and South Washington Avenue. Someone had allegedly cut the lock off, and stole a 6-foot ladder and a hand dolly. The estimated value of the missing items was placed at $170. There are no suspects at this time.
