The Sedalia Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday (April 12) in the 2000 block of US Highway 65. The checkpoint was conducted on the southbound lanes of the highway between 10 p.m. on Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to Sedalia Police, officers checked 437 vehicles at the checkpoint during the checkpoint, and saturation patrol checked a total of 35 vehicles. The checks led to seven citations being issued for no operator’s license, one arrest for possession of marijuana, one warrant arrest, one arrest for introducing contraband into a jail facility, two arrests for driving while suspended and an arrest for an open container. The Missouri State Highway Patrol also made two additional DWI arrests in Pettis County during the early morning hours .

A press release states that there were several major events in the community that night, and it was the intent of the police department to deter those people from consuming alcohol and driving. The release also states that several people who came through the checkpoint said they had been contacted to be a designated driver after receiving information about the checkpoint and saturation patrols.
