A Sedalia man pleaded guilty in federal court on Monday to possessing child pornography.

According to the United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, 37-year-old Jesse William Laws was required to register as a sex offender due to two 2006 federal convictions in the District of Montana for receiving and possessing child pornography. Laws was sentenced to nine years in federal prison, then placed on supervised release, which was transferred to the Western District of Missouri.

In February 2015, Laws' residence was searched when it was suspected he had violated certain conditions of his release. Probation officers found a cell phone during the search and discovered 107 possible images of child pornography on the phone. The browser history revealed multiple visits to a child pornography website, according to authorities.

The Office of the United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri says Laws is subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison without parole, up to a sentence of 20 years in federal prison without parole, which must be served consecutively to the two-year sentence he is currently serving for the revocation of his supervised release.

A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
