Bring Your Green Thumb to Sedalia Farmer’s Market Training
I’ve never been too handy in the ways of cultivating things. Usually I’m pretty good with animals and small humans, they at least can vocally complain when I’m doing something wrong. Plants, meanwhile, suffer in silence. And probably die. But you might not be that way! Maybe you’ve got everything it takes to be a part of the Farmer’s Market.
Current and prospective vendors are invited to the Sedalia Area Farmers’ Market interest and food safety training meeting on Thursday, March 27 at 5:30 p.m. in the Potter-Ewing Agriculture Building at State Fair Community College. Prospective vendors will learn about plans for the 2014 market and receive information about rules and regulations. All vendors in attendance will partake in food safety training provided by the Pettis County Health Department and certification of scales through the Missouri Department of Agriculture Weights & Measures. Egg licenses will also be available to those who plan to sell eggs.
Attendance is not required in order to be a market vendor, but it is strongly encouraged. As a local, producer-only market, all growers must be from Pettis County or its contiguous counties. The market has annual membership, as well as incremental or daily vendor fees. Vendors can submit applications and payment at the meeting.
The first market day of the season will be May 2. The market is open from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday and 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Missouri State Fairgrounds Centennial Gate on South 65 Hwy. In the fall, the hours change a bit: the Friday market hours will be 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. beginning in October.
