Here's a look at some of our local events for the weekend.

Young hunters and anglers will get a chance to learn or polish outdoor skills at the annual J.A.K.E.S. event 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, at the University of Central Missouri trap and skeet range.
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is hosting the event in partnership with the Stealth Gobblers Chapters of the National Wild Turkey Federation. The event for youths ages 8 to 17 is free but space is limited and pre-registration is required by Aug. 12. Adults must accompany youths ages 13 and under.  Activities offered will include trap shooting, shotgun patterning, game calling, archery, fishing and more. Shotguns and ammunition will be provided. But youths are also encouraged to bring their shotguns and ammunition to practice for fall hunting seasons. Door prizes and lunch will be provided. The trap and skeet range is located west of 501 Road and Division Road. Missouri is a great place to hunt and fish, and this event can help families introduce youth to the outdoors or help them sharpen skills. For more information or to register, call 660-530-5500.  J.A.K.E.S. stands for Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship.

The Chartreuse Moose is hosting a doggy fundraiser for Animal FAIR!
It’ll be held on August 17th at The Chartreuse Moose, 1125 N. Simpson Drive Unit K, Warrensburg from 11:00am to 8:00pm. Bring your dogs to the studio to do paw print art on a 6″ tile! Pay only $15 for each tile (includes all supplies and professional lettering). Once paws are stamped, they will be glazed, fired, and ready for pick up at a later date. For those dogs who get nervous in public (or any other pet!), you also have the option of taking home supplies and bringing the tile back to the shop to be finished!

There will be a Catfish Dinner and Rummage Sale on August 17.

It’ll be held at the Ward Memorial Baptist Church at the corner of Pettis and Osage Street. It’ll be held from 11:00 a.m. until they run out of food for a cost of $8. They’ll have catfish fillet, spaghetti, cole slaw and a dessert.
