Here's a look at what's going on in our area this weekend.

The Sedalia Public Library encourages all preschool -12th graders to participate in the Winter Reading Program.

The Mystery of Reading starts January 20 and ends February 17. Sign up in the Children’s Department, check out books from the Library and start reading for a chance to win one of the four mysterious Grand Prizes. Adapted programs are available for children, youth and those with reading disabilities. Call 826-1314 or visit sedalialibrary.com for more information.

The Northwest High School will have their Courtwarming Dinner.

It’ll be held on Friday, January 23 from 5:00 p.m. on. The menu will consist of bbq beef and bbq pork, baked beans, baked potatoes, cole slaw, applesauce, bread, dessert and a drink. The Northwest Mustangs will be playing the Windsor Greyhounds that evening. Adult admission is $8 in advance, or $8.50 at the door, and children aged 6-11 get in for $5 . You’re invited to join them for a meal while attending the game.

Boy Scout Troop 54 will spend the night in the parking lot of the Sedalia Wal Mart Supercenter to collect donations for the Community Cafe.

They’ll be camped out on Friday, January 23 from 5:30 p.m. to Saturday January 24 at 10:00 a.m. Please help by bringing canned goods or paper products. For more information, please call Phillip at 660-553-1556.

Sedalia Kiwanis Club Trivia Night is on Friday January 23 @ 7:00 p.m.

It’ll be held at the Celebration Center, 1701 West 32nd Street. The Kiwanis Trivia Night is open to teams from two to eight members and the Sedalia Kiwanis Club is asking service clubs, schools, churches and families to come and test your knowledge. The entry fee is $10 per person and all proceeds will go to help fund youth programs in the Sedalia community and the Show Me Christian Youth Home. There will be a prize for the top team as well as door prize drawings throughout the evening, a 50/50 drawing, free refreshments and more. The 37th Annual Ham and Bean Dinner, sponsored by the St Patrick’s Church, will be held Saturday, January 24.

It’ll be held from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. The ticket price will be $7 for an adult, and $2.50 for children, with family rates available. The all you can eat dinner includes slaw, cornbread, dessert and drink. There will also be homemade vegetable soup and ham sandwiches with dessert and drink available. Also stop by visit our popular Country Store featuring crafts, baked goods, woodworking, crocheting, kitchen items, or knick knacks during the dinner.

Bothwell Regional Health Center will offer a CPR and First Aid class for the community on Saturday, Jan. 24.

The CPR class is from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and the First Aid class is from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Both are held in the Bothwell Education Center at 600 E.14th St.
The cost of the CPR class is $35, or $50 for both CPR and First Aid. You must register by Jan. 16 by calling (660) 827-9138 or by e-mailing sfraley@brhc.org.

The Longwood Presbyterian Church will have a chili and soup supper.

It’ll be held in Longwood MO, 15 miles north on 65 Hwy to BB, then 3 miles east on Saturday, Jan. 24th from 4 – 7 pm. They’ll have Chili, Vegetable Beef Soup, Hot Dogs, Homemade pies & deserts.  There will be a bake sale and raffle for a quilted throw.

The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a Free Throw Contest.

All boys and girls aged 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level. Trophies are awarded in all 12 divisions. Age eligibility is determined by the age of the contestant as of January 1, 2015. The event will be held on Sunday, January 25 beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart School Gym. The Trinity Men’s Club will host a Pancake Supper Fundraiser.

It’ll be held at the Trinity Lutheran School Cafeteria on Waverly Street in Alma. They’ll begin at 5:30 p.m. and serve until 7:30 p.m. on January 25. The proceeds will be split between the House of Hope, Bible Sticks Ministry, and MS Seminary in St Louis.
