The Leeton Lion’s club will be having a no limit Texas Holdem Tournament. 

It will take place on Friday, May 10 at the Leeton Community Center.  Onsite registration will take place from 5:00 to 6:00 and the tournament begins at 6:00 p.m. The cost is $30 a ticket if bought in advance or $40 at the door.  Drinks and snacks will be provided.  For more information, call 660-238-6298.

The Historic Katy Depot is hosting a Quilt Show of Civil War era quilt designs and fabrics through May 11. 

The Sedville Crazy Quilters Guild has more than thirty new and vintage quilts on display in the Women’s Waiting Room at the Katy Depot, 600 East Third.  The depot is open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.  The theme for the show was chose to go with the year long Civil War Exhibit in the museum at the Depot.  For more information, call 826-2932.

Sedalia will be hosting a 5k Super Mom Walk/Run.

This is a great event for first time walkers or runners and families of all ages. It features a short 2 K course (1.2 miles) as well as the traditional 5 K (3.1 miles) course through the Missouri State Fairgrounds. Strollers are welcome.  Early registration is $10 for individuals and $20 for families. After April 25th registration is: $15 for individuals and $25 for families.

Proceeds will benefit the Pettis County Health Center, Woman, Infants and Children program; which empowers mothers to make healthy nutrition and lifestyle choices for themselves and their families and improve the health status and outcomes for pregnant women, postpartum women and children.

The 21st annual Letter Carrier Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Your letter carrier will pick up your donations when they deliver your mail.  All you have to do is leave non-perishable food items at your mail box, and the carriers will do the rest.  The food collected goes to local food pantries here in Sedalia.   Leave your donations out on Saturday, May 11 for the food drive.

The Knob Noster City Wide Clean up will be available for all who use the City’s Trash Service.

It will take place Saturday, May 11 through Sunday May 19.  The times are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.   Drop off your items at the City Maintenance Barn at 400 West 25.  What they will accept are:  appliances, water heaters, microwaves, freezers, refrigerators, yard debris, tables, chairs, couches, mattresses, metals, shingles and building materials.  What they won’t accept are: tires, batteries, computers, lead based paint, general household trash, and any free flowing liquids.

The Queen City Garden Club will have a plant sale. 

It’ll take place on Saturday, May 11 from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the First Christian Church at 200 South Limit, Sedalia.

The 2013 Kids Fishing Derby will take place with Mo Kids Outdoors.  

It’ll be sponsored by the Relay for Life with Eagle Claw Fishing Products and Rusty Toad Archery Products.  Kids Fishing and You will be Fishing for a Cure at Liberty Park on Saturday, May 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.   Fishing poles will be supplied by the Conservation Department.  There will be archery games and a lunch for a small donation. The next event will take place on May 11 at the Orschelin Farm and Home in Sedalia. They’ll meet from 10:00 a.m.  We have some really great young dogs completely vetted and ready for a loving home. If you want to see our animals available go to: http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/animalfair.html

The Cole Camp Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a “Bikes, Blues & BBQ” event for Saturday, May 11 in downtown Cole Camp.

The motorcycle show will feature various classes of bikes and awards will be given in each class and a trophy will got to the bike judged as best of show.  Registration for the bike show will be from 11:00 a.m.  until 1:00 p.m. on North Maple Street in downtown Cole Camp, with judging to begin at 1:00 p.m. The barbecue contest will be held on Maple Street and includes categories for pork ribs, brisket, chicken, and pork.  Sampling is available from noon to 1:15 p.m. Live music will be featured in the Jaycee Gardens performed by the “Full Moon Band”.  The Cole Camp Jaycees will also host a beer garden that afternoon.  For the most up to date information, visit the Cole Camp Bikes, Blues and BBQ page on Facebook.  Partial funding for the event has been provided by the Benton County Tourism Commission.

The Punchline Players at State Fair Community College will present improv comedy shows at 7:30 p.m. May 11 in the Thompson O’Sullivan Studio Theatre in the Yeater Learning Center on the Sedalia campus.

The shows are free; no tickets are required. Shows are for mature audiences only. The seven comics, at the mercy of the audience, perform short scenes in the style of the television show, “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”  Members include Heather Hill, Sarah Hill and Anthony Alverez, Versailles; Devin Ersery, Kansas City; Bryce Brewer, Stover; Stephen Klee, Warrensburg; and James Sheppard, Knob Noster. Special guests will be the Flatliners improv troupe from Missouri Valley College.

The Ball Brothers will play at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 19856 State Highway Y, in Sedalia, May 12.

The Ball Brothers are two brothers, Andrew and Daniel Ball along with Andy Tharp and Chad McCloskey. The group, along with pianist Cody McVey, and sound technician, Josh Gibson, travel world-wide, singing their distinctive brand of Christian music.
