A Southeast Missouri State University fraternity is on "interim suspension" for campus vandalism.

The university issued a statement Thursday stating that all Sigma Nu group activities have been restricted by the Office of Student Conduct, effective Aug. 9. The suspension will be in place during a review by the student-conduct office.

The Southeast Missourian reports that vandals in May smashed windows and damaged door frames and walls in an historic home owned by the university that housed the Sigma Nu fraternity during the spring 2016 semester.

The house was scheduled to be torn down, and has been since then. But Beth Glaus, interim director of the university's Department of Public Safety, says the vandalism was a crime regardless of whether the building was to be torn down.
