Four State Fair Community College Roadrunners have earned All-Conference recognition for the 2012-1013 basketball season in voting by Midwest Community College Athletic Conference coaches.

Sophomore guard Kenny Chery, sophomore forward Ayo Ojo and freshman guards Joe Thomasson and Kevin Punter were named All-Conference athletes. This was SFCC’s (20-10) first season in the conference.

Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas also earned Co-Conference Coach of the Year, splitting the honor with Mineral Area Head Coach Corey Tate.

Thomas was quick to credit his team and Assistant Coach Josh Sash for the award.

“The Co-Coach of the Year award has a lot to do with the hard work of our players and Coach Sash as well,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “That award goes to the players and assistant coaches who were involved.”

Thomas was pleased to have four players earn recognition.

“All of them played well and had a really good year,” said Thomas. “All of us wish we had had the opportunity to play a little longer. We did some good things this year and all of these players contributed in a lot of different ways.”

Chery was the team’s leading scorer, averaging 16.4 points and five rebounds per game and 105 assists for the season. He also led the team in steals with 48. Thomasson was the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 14 points per game, and led the team in assists with 150 for the season. Punter averaged 13.2 points and 4.2 rebounds. Ojo averaged 8.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game and registered a team-leading 23 blocked shots for the season.
