The State Fair Community College Roadrunners finished out the 2014 portion of their 2014-2015 season on a winning note, bringing home a 7th place in the Coffeyville Community College JUCO Elite 8 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

SFCC forfeited Thursday's game to Independence due to injuries and team rule infractions, which brought them to the loser's side of the bracket.

SFCC had their hands full against Pratt on Friday and lost 89-72. SFCC trailed 44-30 in the first half and played a closer game in the second half. They came into this game with six players, but Selvedin Planincic fouled out in the second half, causing the remaining five players to finish out the game. At one point Pratt led by 20 and Josh Bailey hit two three pointers and that led SFCC to a 11-0 run, before Pratt responded and finished out the game on the winning end.

SFCC would have to wait to see who they would play on Saturday after this game. Ellsworth played Quakerdale Prep and Ellsworth won 94-71. This meant SFCC would play Quakerdale Prep on Saturday afternoon at 1.

SFCC earlier season beat Quakerdale in the Stone Laser Imaging Classic, 85-68. SFCC and Quakerdale on Saturday battled with 11 lead changes through the game, but Hakeem Coney led the team with 17 assists and scored 18 points to lead SFCC to victory 89-82. There were some key three pointers by Josh Bailey down the stretch, but it was all around team effort with Bailey scoring 23, Coney had 18, Planincic had 16, Clint Robinson and Donnavan Hastings had 12 and Ryan Surface scored 8.

Coach Kevin Thomas was pleased with the total team effort from his six guys in the second game and was happy they could end the semester out with a victory.

Friday's Bob Oehrke Player of the Game was Josh Bailey and Saturday's Bob Oehrke Player of the Game went to Hakeem Coney.

The focus for Coach Thomas and Assistant Coach Josh Sash is to go on recruiting trips over the semester break and get these guys prepared for finals this coming week.

The SFCC Roadrunners are 4-11 to finish out the 2014 portion of the season.

The SFCC Lady Roadrunners did receive good news as they were ranked #17 in the JUCO National Polls, with all three losses on their season coming to ranked teams.

The Fred E. Davis Multi will be busy over the semester break with the WK Holiday Shootout, featuring area high school teams, starting up on Thursday, December 18th.
