Shawn Garrett Kanak, 55, of Cole Camp, died Monday, July 29, 2013, at his home.  He was born on May 15, 1958, at Ellsworth, Kansas, a son of Alois Stephen and Marlene (McGuire) Kanak.

In 1960, he moved with his family from Windsor to Cole Camp.  He became a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on June 4, 1967, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Cole Camp by Pastor Arlyn Saathoff.  His baptismal sponsors were Leroy Bugh and Nadyne Bugh.  On June 3, 1973, he publicly confessed his faith in the triune God through the Rite of Confirmation at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Cole Camp by Pastor J. P. Gorklo.

In 1976, he graduated from Benton County R-1 School in Cole Camp.  After graduation, he attended iron worker's school and joined Iron Worker Local No. 10 of Kansas City.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his friends.

He is survived by: one sister, Kim Elaine Toliver and her husband Tom of Hughesville; two brothers, Mark Sheldon Kanak of Lincoln and Stephen Mitchell Kanak and his wife Susan of Blue Springs; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud Kanak, Marlene Kanak Norris, and his step-father, Clyde Norris.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.
