The Smith-Cotton High Cheer Squad brought home three gold ribbons from the Universal Cheerleading Association camp held June 13-15 in Independence.

Competing with larger teams from Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas, S-C received gold ribbons during cheer evaluations, sideline cheer evaluations, and for its "xtreme routine" evaluation.

Gold is superior and the highest recognition available at the camp. At final evaluations, S-C also received third place overall for cheer, second place overall for its "xtreme routine," and the camp improvement award.

Lajayda Wheeler received the All American Cheerleader award; and Wheeler and Alexis Christian were awarded the Pin It Forward Award, given to only seven cheerleaders in the camp.

They were selected by the camp instructors for their exemplary work at camp and in return had to "pin it forward" to another cheerleader at camp who they thought showed the true definition of a cheerleader.

The team is coached by Karmen Butler.

In addition, The Smith-Cotton High JV Cheer Squad earned a number of awards at
the Universal Cheerleading Association camp held June 19-21 at State Fair Community College. The squad competed with varsity teams from other area schools.

S-C earned blue "superior" ribbons for its cheer and "xtreme routine" evaluations. On the final day of the camp, S-C was awarded first place for sideline, second place for "xtreme routine" and first place for its game day routine.

Team captain Brittany Bobbitt earned the All American Cheerleader award,
and Bobbitt, Madison Swift and Taylor Eppes were awarded the Pin It Forward Award.

They were selected by the camp instructors for their exemplary work at camp and in return had to "pin it forward" to another cheerleader at camp who they thought showed the true definition of a cheerleader.

The JV team is coached by Karmen Butler.
