Smith-Cotton High School’s varsity and junior varsity cheerleading squads worked on skills and techniques and earned a collection of awards at the Universal Cheerleaders Association camp held June 3-6 at Lake of the Ozarks.

Junior Madison Lyles was selected as an All-American Cheerleader. The designation is based on performers’ best jump, cheer and dance. S-C Cheerleading Coach Karmen Butler said: “Madison came to camp this year ready to succeed. He went out of his comfort level and decided to try some new things. He competed in the jump off and made it to the top three. He was the only member of our team to make All American Cheerleader."

Lyles and senior Jasmine Sims each received the Pin It Forward award, which recognizes cheerleaders who exhibit leadership, spirit, commitment, kindness and motivation. Recipients are selected by UCA camp staff members; the recipients then select another camp participant who they believe exhibits the same traits.
Sims also was selected to try out to be a UCA staff member.

The S-C JV squad earned trophies as most improved and best small JV for game day. The varsity squad earned trophies for best cheer and the camp improvement award.
“The S-C cheerleaders worked hard at camp this week,” Butler said. “They learned lots of material to bring back to school and should be well prepared and ready for game days."
