Senior Darby Christian had 20 points as the Smith-Cotton Lady Tigers defeated Kirksville, 49-39, on Monday night in the first round of the Marshall Tournament.

Helping the Lady Tigers notch their first victory of the season were Nia Hawkins, who added 10 points, and Sophie Martin, who had six points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

"It was a good team win," said S-C head coach Jonathan Tester. "The energy was good throughout."

S-C (1-1) next faces the winner of Grain Valley/Raytown South at 6:30 pm Thursday.
