Smith-Cotton High School Students See DWI Program
Smith-Cotton High student Annie Guiertries to find her way across the room while wearing goggles that simulate vision impairment caused by alcohol or drug use Dec. 18 in Amy Miller's health class. The exercise provided students with a safe way to see how drugs and alcohol cause disorientation.
With the help of some specially-made goggles, students in teacher Amy Miller’s health classes at Smith-Cotton High School got to see how alcohol or drugs can leave a person disoriented. The goggles simulate the vision and orientation impairments caused by differing levels of drugs and alcohol. Miller had her students wear the goggles then try simple tasks such as walking across the classroom or picking up paper clips, which the goggles made increasingly more difficult.
