The Smith-Cotton JROTC Academic and Leadership teams competed Feb. 7 in the JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB) Level 2 Test.

The testing consists of JROTC curriculum, English, math, science, and hands-on leadership situations. Teams from around the country and around the world participate, and first place teams get a chance to go to Washington, D.C. to compete.

The S-C JROTC Academic Team competed against 604 teams. The Leadership Team competed against 548 teams and placed third in the Midwest Region.

JROTC cadets on the Leadership team include Jordyn Smith, Dalton Shepard (Commander), Erika Tackett, Kayla Archambault, and Yoana Nandho. Academic team members include Laura Haney, Dante Arnwine, Dakota Johnson (Commander), Kory Bohle, Juan Cantu and Mitchell Lake.

Senior Army Instructor Lt. Col. (Ret.) Harry Cunningham said, "We would like to congratulate our Leadership and Academic teams for all of their hard work and dedication."
