Special Olympics Missouri State Outdoor Games are set to bring more than 950 athletes and 200 coaches from around the state to Jefferson City from October 13-15, and they're in need of nearly 400 volunteers for the event.

Whether you have prior sports knowledge or not, Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) can put volunteers in the best position to make a difference and have a good time while they’re at it.

A full list of volunteer opportunities can be found at www.somo.org/outdoor. Signing up can be done quickly and easily, and is easily self-managed.

Not sure if you have what it takes to be a volunteer? No prior knowledge is necessary to volunteer. Volunteer positions range from helping set up the games to keeping score, taking photographs, organizing and presenting awards, etc. Videographer and photographer positions are also available each day of competition.

If you're interested in the games, but can’t commit a couple of hours to volunteer, SOMO encourages you to attend all events. Special Olymics Missouri is on a mission to put fans in the stands to cheer for the athletes. Even if you can only stay an hour or two, the athletes will greatly appreciate your support.
