Sentencing will be in June for a St. Louis-area man convicted of causing the death of his roommate in their apartment in 2013.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Jefferson County Circuit Judge Nathan Baird Stewart convicted 24-year-old Keith Wildharber on Wednesday of first-degree involuntary manslaughter. Wildharber had opted for a judge to decide the case rather than a jury.

Wildharber had faced a second-degree murder charge in Matthew Knight's death.

Police said Wildharber, Knight and two others were drinking at the apartment on the night of July 29, 2013, when Wildharber shot Knight in the torso with a pistol.

Court documents alleged friends and co-workers told investigators Knight repeatedly said he feared Wildharber would kill him, and that he had pointed a gun at him in the past.
