BRIDGETON, Mo. (AP) — The St. Louis area's congressional delegation says some contamination in a suburban landfill prone to smoldering came from the government and could justify changing oversight of the property. The delegation wrote a letter to U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz saying his agency should rethink whether Bridgeton's West Lake landfill should be added to an Army Corps of Engineers cleanup program designed for radioactive contamination. The landfill now is under the jurisdiction of the Environmental Protection Agency.
