John Swearingen, President of the Board of Directors of Economic Development for Sedalia/Pettis County made two announcements today (September 10), recognizing an award for local business owner Barbara Hayden and the expansion of the Starline Facility in Sedalia.

On Friday, September 7, Barbara Hayden of Starline Manufacturing in Sedalia, received the Governor's Minority and Small Business Award from Governor Jay Nixon.  This award was given on the premise that the business be 51% owned, operated and controlled in Missouri by a minority or non-minority Missouri resident with fewer than 100 employees, a minimum of three years operation in Missouri and gives back to the community.   Hayden said she was surprised when Nixon called her name.  She loves being based in Sedalia and loves this community.

In addition to Hayden's award, Starline was successful in obtaining an Enhanced Enterprise Zone (EEZ) application approval from the state of Missouri for an expansion to the Starline Facility at 1300 West Henry Street.  This was the second time Starline received an EEZ credit.  The first EEZ credit came in 2008 and they received $2 million for that expansion and added 8 full-time jobs.  The new award was for $1.4 million for real and personal property investment that will create ten new full-time jobs.

Barbara Hayden said that they already have laid the concrete down and hope to have it ready by October.
