Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.  It's difficult to diagnose, difficult to treat, and difficult to understand.

There are so many different types and degrees of autism.  Every case is different, just like every person affected is different.  We need all the research and education we can get so that every different child or adult with autism can get the treatment they need and deserve.

Steppin 4 the Spectrum is getting the word out there and hoping you'll join them on Saturday, April 5. This is a 5k walk and run set up to support the awareness of autism and provide resources and services to people with autism in central Missouri.

I got to talk with Shawn Cairer, one of the organizers of the event, about the goal they hope to achieve and how you can help.

So why not come out and support the Steppin 4 The Spectrum 5k/walk and run? Over 200 people are registered now, and every person's involvement helps.  The date of the event will be on April 5 starting at 9:00 a.m. on the Missouri State Fairgrounds.  To find out more, email Shaun, find them on Facebook, or call 660- 221-9234.

Steppinly yours,
Behka
