Sydney E. Eakins, 97, formerly of Sedalia, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Carnegie Village in Belton.

She was born November 17, 1916, in Sedalia, a daughter of the late John and Minnie (Raus) Rumsey. On September 8, 1934, in Sedalia, she married Charles William Eakins, who preceded her in death on February 4, 2001 after 66 years of marriage.

She was raised and educated in Sedalia. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ. She was a talented seamstress, excellent cook, competitive card player and most of all, enjoyed her family.

She is survived by two children, Jeffrey Eakins, of Kansas City, MO, and Olivia Jeanne Dzurick, of Columbia; a special daughter-in-law, Cindy Jenkins, of Gladstone; a special granddaughter-in-law, Kelly Kuns, of Belton; seven grandchildren, Sid Kuns (Kelly), Phillips Kuns, Karen Pryor (Dan), Katy Edwards (Gabe), Jennifer Eakins, Rebecca Eakins and Jeffrey Dzurick; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three children, Charles Willliam Eakins II, Judith Ann Harford and Jodie Brittingham; and seven siblings.

Funeral service will be 2 pm, Saturday, April 5, 2014, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert Sisney officiating. Pallbearers will be son, Jeffrey Eakins, grandsons, Sid Kuns, Phillip Kuns and Jeffrey Dzurick, Dan Pryor and Gabe Edwards. Visitation will be 1 pm until service time. Burial will follow in Mount Herman Cemetery.
