October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month,  Too many people have been effected by this horrible disease.  Becky Thomas is a breast cancer survivor, one of the original "blues sisters" and a great friend.  Here are her words and insights on Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

For the past three years, Thomas Doty has been fighting for his life. In late 2009, when the teenager from Washington state should have been enjoying life, Doty was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. It's a condition that took an even worse turn thanks to a cruel prank.

Judy Blume, author of many popular children’s books from the 1970s, revealed that she has been privately battling breast cancer since June. She shared the news on her blog, via a humorously written post titled ‘!@#$% Happens.’

Recently I received word of the death of 15-year old Ceaira Walker, from my old hometown of Knob Noster.   While I never had the chance to know her personally, she definitely caught the attention of many in recent months, and I do know many from Knob who were profoundly impacted by her life and her never give up spirit.

The 2012 Pettis County Relay For Life is set to take place this Friday on the Missouri State Fairgrounds. In this event, teams are formed and they raise funds through pledges and other fund raising events leading up to the relay.  On Saturday night starting at 6, walkers will take turns going around the track for 12 hours.
