Well that didn’t take long. Following David Ayer’s recent teaser image of the character and Jared Leto’s own candid Snapchat pic, the director has officially revealed the first legitimate photo of Leto in character as the Joker in Suicide Squad. He’s very pale, very tattooed and totally insane. And he’s nothing like any Joker you’ve ever seen before.

Despite being based on a niche comic book and starring a cast of characters who are total unknowns to most people, Suicide Squad is quickly shaping up to be one of the most intriguing superhero movies on our radar. Much of our interest comes from the cast director David Ayer has assembled for his supervillain-themed men-on-a-mission tale. Even with Tom Hardy dropping out, the film is still set to feature Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Viola Davis (and, sigh, Jai Courtney), which makes this one of the nuttiest ensembles ever assembled. Now, Ayer is looking to plug that Tom Hardy-shaped hole with Joel Kinnaman.

It looks like ‘Suicide Squad’ is still searching for its Rick Flagg. Following Tom Hardy’s departure from Warner Bros. upcoming DC super villain project, Jake Gyllenhaal was being eyed to take over. But the actor has basically said “Nah, bro, I’m good” and passed on the film as well. With David Ayer’s film hitting the big screen in 2016, WB still has a little time to cast the central role.

A few weeks back, we heard that Ryan Gosling went in to meet about a possible role in WB's 'Suicide Squad' film, but it wasn't clear which role that might have been, as details about which characters might be featured in the movie are still a mystery. According to the latest report, Jared Leto is now up for that role -- and that role could very well be The Joker, Batman's longtime nemesis.

Today in "superhero movie news that makes too much sense to not be true," it was revealed that David Ayer's upcoming 'Suicide Squad' movie will have an even more direct connection to 'Batman vs. Superman' and Warner Bros.' entire slate of DC superhero movies than previously thought.
