45 Dogs Rescued from Unlicensed Breeding Facility in Johnson County

A search warrant served this morning (Oct. 30) at a Johnson County residence resulted in the rescue of 45 dogs from an unlicensed breeding facility.  The Missouri Department of Agriculture, the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force and the Johnson County Sheriff's Department took custody of the Chihuahua, Chihuahua-mix dogs, Shih Tzus and a rabbit from the residence of Aaron Bishop near Garden City.

As the speaker sounded the end of summer swimming at Centennial Park Pool at 5:55 p.m., there were a line of dogs ready to take over the pool and take over.  Every type of dog from minis to large dogs made it out in the 90 degree heat to get the chance to cool off.

Centennial Pool Hosting Annual Doggie Dive

Each year the Centennial Park Pool closes just before the Missouri State Fair, usually because the Missouri State Fair is starting up and demand for the two pools goes down as people flock to the Fairgrounds.  The other rational is some of the lifeguards are college students and they begin their trek back to college.

In the last few years, a tradition has started up where on the last day before the pools are drained, they allow dogs to come out and swim.  The doggie dive will occur at Centennial Park Pool today (August 7) starting at 6 p.m. and will last until 7:30 p.m.

Looking for a Family Pet? Consider a Local Shelter

Recently my family decided that it was time to get a second dog.   While my wife and I have always had a dog in our life, this would be the first dog that our kids would have the chance to really help pick out.  My wife is a big fan of dachshunds, while my kids like smaller type dogs.  We are not a puppy family, and am proud to say we've gotten all of our dogs from area shelters since we've been married.
