The Sedalia City Council met last night (Sept. 23) in the first floor council chamber of City Hall for a work session in order to make room for the large crowd of Sedalia citizens who attended the meeting that covered three contentious subjects.

This weekend is the Criterium Bike Race in historic Downtown Sedalia. The high speed downtown bicycle race has had as many as 200 entries in the past and takes place this Saturday on a 0.7 mile course. Crews have blocked off South Ohio Avenue between 2nd Street and southbound to Gazebo Park in downtown Sedalia in preparation to demolish several buildings damaged by a fire on Dec. 14, 2012.  The demolitions comes at the recommendation of an engineer who deemed the buildings unstable and dangerous.

The Sedalia Fire Department responded to a fire at 208 Ohio St. in downtown Sedalia early this morning (Dec. 14). As of 8:00 a.m. this morning, fire crews were still working to put out the blaze.

The Sedalia City Council has approved a bid to finish the demolition of buildings located at 203 and 204 West Main Street. The decision was made at a city council meeting on Monday evening (September 24).
