Fantastic Four

Ah, the Razzies. Looking at the list of nominees for the annual "worst film awards" increasingly makes it seem as though the people behind the Razzies don't actually watch the worst films of the year, and while Fifty Shades of Grey was hardly 2015’s worst cinematic byproduct, the film managed to sweep the Razzies with five "awards." Fantastic Four was right behind it with three awards, with both films tying for Worst Picture of 2015. At least they got it half-right.

Here’s the thing about this Fantastic Four movie: it was supposed to be horrible. This movie has been riding an almost unprecedented level of bad buzz since earlier this year. Strangely, it seems to have started over literally nothing. Fans were upset they hadn’t seen anything official from the movie and began to suspect it stunk. Then, depending on who you talk to, the director was fired, the actors were upset and the script was a mess. But, the days of speculation are over and none of that bad buzz matters any more; there’s an actual film that can be judged on its own merits. Sadly, Fantastic Four, on its own merits, is still horrible.

In an age where audiences are inundated with superhero movies and superhero movie news, Josh Trank’s upcoming Fantastic Four reboot has distinguished itself from the pack by being the movie that no one knows anything about. Aside from that vague, Interstellar-inspired teaser trailer, most of what we know about this film comes from hearsay and gossip. Depending on who you talk to, the film is either coming along fine or it’s an incomprehensible disaster. Could the brand new poster for the film give us anything new to chew on?

After the Fantastic Four trailer debuted online, and with the subsequent images from the film, many people have remarked that the costumes seen in the trailer looking nothing at all like the outfits worn in the comics. Star Michael B. Jordan has previously described these new suits as “containment suits” because they were looking for something different for this “gritty” take on the film. But, fear not True Believers: we spoke to Fantastic Four star Miles Teller and he told us that you can expect to see something more traditional as well.

Football fans are no doubt excited for the 2015 Super Bowl. Heck, Marvel superheroes Chris Pratt and Chris Evans have a bet riding on it. But, even non-sports fans can find something to enjoy. No, we're not talking about Katy Perry's décolletage, we're talking about the Super Bowl movie trailers that will be airing during the commercial breaks. Miles Teller has a movie he's very proud of this year. That movie is 'Whiplash,' a movie about the dysfunctional relationship between a jazz drummer and his demented teacher. He says of all the training he put into the film, "It was, by far, the hardest thing I’ve ever done." Miles Teller also has a movie he's not very proud of. That movie is the young adult hit 'Divergent,' which Teller says left him feeling "dead inside."

We've already heard about Disney's Marvel and Warner Bros.' DC lineups coming to Comic-Con 2014 (whether they've been officially confirmed or not), but what about that itty-bitty superhero property over in 20th Century Fox land, 'Fantastic Four'? The cast and crew have been on location in Louisiana filming for a couple months now, but will they be jetting to San Diego to appease the fans?
