Warning Signs That You Are Headed For (or Are Already Having) Heart Trouble

We are now in American Heart Month, but we should pay attention to our hearts all year long, not just during February. Everything else your body does is dependent on how well your heart is working, so if it's at risk of problems, you need to find out why.

Jack Miller’s Final Healthy Heart Update

This is my final updated from my rehab period. For those who may not know or remember, I had a heart attack on January 9 and had two stints put in the vessels of my heart. I feel fortunate that what I received was a warning that I have not been treating my body well. During the last few months, I have been going through 36 sessions of physical rehab at the Bothwell Regional Health Center. I have now completed that rehab, and feel like I am very much improved, although still well over the weight limit for a pony.

This week, my workouts were cut short thanks to a cough and cold. Since I am feeling under the weather and am not breathing too good, it seemed like a good idea to skip Friday’s rehab.

Jack’s Journey To A Healthy Heart: Update for March 9, 2013

Jack’s Heart Health Update for March 1, 2013

It is time for another update on my cardio rehab at the Bothwell Hospital Rehab Center. My schedule has changed and now I don’t have to get up and around as early as before. I changed classes from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., something my wife liked too. The workouts are getting longer and harder, but that is as expected.

Jack’s Heart Health Update for February 24, 2013

Well, I have had several sessions at the rehab center of Bothwell Hospital, and I am enjoying them, I guess because I feel like I am at last doing something that is good for my health. I will have to admit the exercise has made me a little sore in spots, but I think that is a sign that I really need the activity.

Jack Miller’s Journey to a Healthier Heart Begins

I actually started this journey right after I woke up in the ICU at Boone Hospital in Columbia with two stints to keep the blood flowing from my heart. That was on Jan. 9 after I suffered a heart attack. At that point it was easy to promise myself, that I would do everything I could to never have a repeat of that scary event.

A Wake Up Call from My Heart

Wednesday, Jan 9, 2013, 5:30 a.m. Memo to self: Wake up, have a heart attack, panic.

While this is not a memo anyone would write to themselves, it happens even without a reminder. As it is with most people who have it happen. my heart attack should have been expected because I am a perfect candidate: overweight, a sedentary life style, and a penchant to worry too much about small things. On the plus side, I gave up smoking over 40 years ago, and my drinking has shrunk to an occasional beer.  However, my love of things that have added to my weight and expanded my waistline put me in the “Matter of time” category.
