The Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division has a large number of historic photographs in its collection. Some of them are from Sedalia and Pettis County. Unfortunately, dates are not available for many of these images. Even so, it is interesting to look at the collection.
It was October 29, 1929, the Stock Market crashed, wiping out the fortunes of thousands of investors. The day came to be known as BLACK TUESDAY, and it triggered the "GREAT DEPRESSION" which lasted for nearly 10 more years.
I know this is going to make me sound so incredibly old, but here goes. There's something I've noticed about the young people today - they don't seem to know much about what happened before them. The Lake Creek Camp meeting has been meeting since the 1800's outside of Smithton. It brings a rich history to their new events coming up for this year's meeting in the idyllic countryside of the valley.
