Missouri State Fair Opening Ceremony Honors Volunteer Fire Department [PHOTOS]
The first day of the 110th Missouri State Fair began today with speeches and music from the Marshall Municipal Band in front of the Fire Station on the North Side of the Fairgrounds. A large crowd endured the heat, as Mark Wolfe, the Missouri State Fair Director lead off with a speech that recognized the success and longevity of the fair.
Missouri State Fair Highlights for Thursday, August 9
The 110th Missouri State Fair is officially here. Each day there are different activities planned through the day and we hope you enjoy some of the activities. As of right now, the Pepsi Grandstand shows have not sold out, so you can get tickets at the Pepsi Grandstand Box Office during the course of the Missouri State Fair.
Centennial Pool Hosting Annual Doggie Dive
Each year the Centennial Park Pool closes just before the Missouri State Fair, usually because the Missouri State Fair is starting up and demand for the two pools goes down as people flock to the Fairgrounds. The other rational is some of the lifeguards are college students and they begin their trek back to college.
In the last few years, a tradition has started up where on the last day before the pools are drained, they allow dogs to come out and swim. The doggie dive will occur at Centennial Park Pool today (August 7) starting at 6 p.m. and will last until 7:30 p.m.

On the Road with Doug: Peach Tree Farm in Boonville [PHOTOS]
My father had a saying growing up; "You could go all over the world and see some amazing things, but take the time to see what's in your backyard too." I decided to pack up the kids and head to The Peach Tree Farm in Boonville on our way to Columbia.
What’s Your Favorite Spicy Sauce?
I have been known to love spicy food and spicy sauces over the years. However I have to admit that mild has been the way I roll in recent years. I took the family out to Boonville and Columbia last weekend and tried Buckhingham's Smokehouse BBQ. I am not going to do a formal review of the place, but I do want to talk about the sauces.
Air Force Unit ‘Tops In Blue’ to Perform in Warrensburg
I am a very proud Air Force brat. Even at my age, I always feel like I'll have that title as my father served proudly for 20 years. My mom served in the Air Force as well. Some of my favorite memories surround the military, like when I got to see President Ronald Reagan visit Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany and when I saw the Air Force Thunderbirds on numerous occasions. Then, there is Tops In Blue.
Tops In Blue is a variety show that is comprised of active duty Air Force personnel who put on performances all across the world. I have seen many of their shows, and this year they will be playing on Thursday, August 9, at the University of Central Missouri Multipurpose Building at 7 p.m.
1982 St. Louis Cardinals Reuniting This Weekend at Busch Stadium
Many people may not soon forget the amazing run the St. Louis Cardinals had in 2011 on their way to the World Series, but the storied Cardinals team history runs deeper than just one season. A magical season also occurred in 1982, where the Cardinals went 92-70 and won the National League East. If you remember, those were the days of just two divisions in each league. The Cardinals then went on to sweep the Atlanta Braves before they won in an epic seven game series versus the Milwaukee Brewers.
30 years later, the Brewers and Cardinals will play again as National League Central foes, and it is a fitting time to reflect on that 1982 season. The Cardinals have announced that more than 20 1982 Cardinals players will come to the three-game series at Busch Stadium to be honored this weekend (August 3-5).
No Honor Among These Thieves: Looters Raid Mark Twain Apartment Complex
Usually there is a line that even the lowest criminal will not cross. That line is the one that takes advantage of a tragedy. In the police report for July 26, 2012, there was one of those stories that points out that we have someone in this area who has stooped that low.
