The third annual Sedalia-Pettis County United Way Campaign Kickoff was held at Convention Hall in Liberty Park on Thursday, August 30 at noon.  For the last three years, United Way has had celebrity chefs cook for the crowd to show how people can come together for the betterment of the community.

Sedalia Police and Pettis County Sheriff’s Report: Morning of August 29, 2012

On Sunday, August 26, Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 1200 Block of South Limit for a sexual harassment report. The victim said that she had been touched inappropriately while at work, after she repeatedly told the male suspect no. This was not the first time it had occurred. 31-year-old Ashish Patel was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released and charged with sexual misconduct in the 3rd degree.

Pettis County storm shelters are location at various locations around town and vary in capacity, able to shelter from 600-3000 people at a time.  The shelters will be available when Pettis County has been placed under a Tornado Watch, and will remain open until the watch expires or has been cancelled.  Information concerning whether or not residents should go to the shelter will be broadcast on Newstalk 1050 KSIS, as well as 1490 and available online via Nixle.  You can also “Like” Sedalia-Pettis County Emergency Management Agency on Facebook for Storm shelter status.

The Pettis County Commission has announced the completion of the construction of eight Pettis County storm shelters.  The commission is continuing to develop available parking for those that wish to seek cover in the shelter in case of an emergency.

Primary Election Results for Missouri/Pettis County

Pettis County along with the rest of Missouri held a primary election on August 7 to elect candidates for the November General Election. In spite of the fact that there were a lot of uncontested races, the election exceeded expectations according to the Pettis County Clerk Nick LaStrada, who said the voter turnout was 21% for Pettis County.

Permanent Prescription Drug Drop Off Site Established in Pettis County Sheriff’s Lobby

For the last couple of years, Bothwell Regional Health Center has run a prescription drop off for expired or unwanted prescriptions, but those drives were only done once or twice a year.  Now you can drop off unwanted prescriptions at the Pettis County Sheriff's Lobby at 319 South Lamine at your leisure.  The location is one of ten permanent drop box locations across the state, part of a Missouri Youth/Adult Alliance (MYAA) program to reduce prescription drug abuse.
