Turnaround time for 'The Simpsons' has treated fans to the knowledge that season 26 premiere "Clown in the Dumps" would feature the death of a major recurring character for the long-running animation series, a deadly prospect made all the more ominous by the episode's title. Now, as the first photos of the Krusty-centric 'Simpsons' premiere emerge, FOX realllllly wants us to think Bart's favorite clown is the beloved "Clown in the Dumps."

'The Simpsons' marathon continues for its sixth straight day on FXX today amidst a growing chorus of complaints about the network’s decision to alter the format of every episode from the show’s first nineteen seasons. As detailed in Max O’Connell’s recent article on Indiewire, FXX has cropped and stretched pre-HD 'Simpsons' installments from their original 4:3 aspect ratio (the height and width of our old standard-definition TVs) to 16:9 (the dimensions of our new HD sets), apparently in order to make sure that no one suffers through old television episodes with black bars on the sides of the image.

If FXX's ongoing 12-day marathon of all 522 'The Simpsons' episodes reminds us of anything, it's that the series' enduring popularity makes it impossible to say when FOX might finally call it quits on America's favorite family. Whether or not "You'll Never Stop the Simpsons" however, showrunner Al Jean has a very specific (and familiar!) image picked out for the distant future's series finale.

Heading into its record-setting 26th season, 'The Simpsons' show no signs of stopping as 2014 brings with it a bevy of new milestones. For one, that major character death has officially been confirmed for our fall premiere, while 'The Simpsons' bosses have gone on record about the 'Futurama' and 'Family Guy' crossovers, and FX's massive 'Simpsons World' app prepares for launch!

'The Simpsons' has been on for so long that no corner of this fictional city hasn't been explored, and no casual reference hasn't been transformed into a full-fledged character or storyline. Well, at least we thought so! It looks like the 26th season of the long-running program managed to find one sliver of Springfield that's been left unexplored and Fox enlisted Will Forte to help explore it.

'The Simpsons' has made countless headlines over the last year with its tributes to famed artists, LEGO tie-ins and memorial content, but the biggest story won't hit until late 2014.
