40 & 8 Commander Tony Gallagher Thanks the Community for Strong Support on Veterans Day

SEDALIA (Tony Gallagher, 40 & 8 Commander) -  Veteran's Day 2013!  What a great day from start to finish!  The S-C JROTC served a delicious breakfast to all veterans and their families at the high school.  This was followed by a great program in the gymnasium with honors paid to all the veterans.  I very much appreciated being asked to be the main speaker and was humbled.

Gov. Jay Nixon: Standing With Our Veterans, As They Stood for Us [OPINION]

STANDING WITH OUR VETERANS, AS THEY STOOD FOR US
By Gov. Jay Nixon

One in 12 Missourians – almost half a million of our state’s 6 million citizens – have served in our nation’s armed forces. Now ranging in age from their early twenties to over 95 years old, they defended the freedoms we hold dear, both during times of conflict and times of peace.

Show Me Honor Flight 13 Returns Home from Washington D.C. [PHOTOS]

Show Me Honor Flight veterans were welcomed home last night (Oct. 29), and what a welcoming they received! As they exited of I-70 from their all day event, they were greeted by 25 roaring motorcycles waiting for them at Marshall Junction to escort them home. As they came into Sedalia and over the railroad tracks downtown, a large group of citizens were there to greet them, as well as the Sedalia Fire Department. The fire department sprayed two archways of water over the bus as it passed through, and on the other side were people waving and cheering them home. They traveled down Ohio to 3rd and then turned right off of 3rd to Osage, coming to a stop at City Hall to one of the largest groups that have welcomed the Honor Flights home.

Not All Veterans Agree With the President Bashing at Saturday’s Rally [OPINION]

As a veteran, I did not like the idea of the rally at the courthouse on Saturday (Oct. 12) turning into a Republican event that took every opportunity it could to bash the President of the United States. Some veterans believe they speak for all veterans when they speak out against the president, but some of us have our own ideas of where the blame lies.

Huntin’ and Fishin’ with Harry Attends Sedalia Veterans’ Rally Protesting Government Shutdown

Well, it was a great Saturday (Oct. 12), showing support at the Sedalia courthouse and being a member of the 40 & 8.  I’m proud to say that I’m a veteran.  Now with that said, we held a veterans' rally at the same time the rally was going on in Washington D.C., where rally members picked up the barricades and carried them to the White House in protest of the shutdown of the memorials and the treatment of our veterans.

Walmart Plans to Hire 100,000 Veterans

The national unemployment rate spiked following the 2008 financial crash, and it has remained stubbornly high ever since. Unfortunately, it has been even worse for returning American service members. Today, though, Walmart announced a plan to hire 100,000 veterans over the next five years.
