PEARL HARBOR (NNS) -- Hawaii-based service members, veterans, government leaders and civilians attended a ceremony of the 69th anniversary of the end of World War II aboard the Battleship Missouri Memorial Sept. 2.
Now moored on Ford Island, the location where Sailors first witnessed the attack that brought America to war, USS Missouri, serves as a monument and a reminder for the beginning and the
May 8 is a significant day, although it may not be featured on every single calendar. It is the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, or V-E Day. This is the anniversary of the end of hostilities during World War II in Europe, which ceased in 1945. The Sedalia VFW recognized and thanked World War II veterans for their service today (May 8).
The current state of American honor and respect is in question today, as two teenage boys and a man have been arrested in Chicago for allegedly ambushing an elderly World War II veteran, severely beating him and then robbing him of his money.
