Two suspects were arrested after kidnapping a mother and son from the Walmart Parking lot in Warrensburg on Dec. 5. Alan E. Briscoe age, 23 of Knob Noster and Kevin A. Ratte age 21 of Warrensburg are facing charges of kidnapping, child kidnapping, 1st degree robbery, stealing a motor vehicle and sexual misconduct.

This story had been going on since the murder of Blaine Whitworth and the arrest of Ziyad Abid and Reginald Singletary in connection to his murder. Abid was released after a witness changed his story in August. Meanwhile, Singletary's jury trial date has moved several times and is now not due to start until Feb. 4, 2014.

The Sedalia STING unit uncovered a meth operation on East 4th St. on the morning of Dec. 17. This was one of the first STING unit operations that followed up the ATF sting in November, and proves once again that the STING unit is continuing to uncover drugs in our area and get them off our streets.

This case came up in October and dealt with a family that accused UCM student Matt Barnett of rape. The case was dropped and then brought up again while he was studying at UCM, and UCM backed the idea that any qualified student should be able to pursue or continue their education.

Miss USA and Miss Missouri USA Shandi Finnessey joined with former Miss USA Shanna Moakler, Susan Castillo and Alyssa Campanella bared it all for PETA just before Miss USA in June to try and bring more attention to the fact that pageants are giving fur away as prizes.

 

 

Pipeline Explosion

On Thanksgiving, many residents in the area were woken up or alerted by the explosion of the Panhandle Pipeline. This explosion could be seen from 40 miles around. Thankfully, there were no deaths or injuries reported in the explosion.

Paramedic Kenny Stone died while on duty on August 23. Emergency personnel from all over the area and state attended his funeral and gave an emotional procession captured by photographer Kevin Walker.

Chad Stover, a Tipton High School football player, passed away on the morning of Nov. 14 after suffering a football injury during a game versus Sacred Heart on Oct. 31. Communities all around the area supported and prayed for Chad Stover and his family while he was in the hospital. It was impressive to see how communities came together with fundraisers and prayer chains for Chad and his family, especially seeing those wearing #18 for Chad Stover.

At the tail end of the year, when our morning guy on KIX 105, Rob Edwards, wondered who should be the Sedalia Person of the Year. This person would not necessarily be known for good, but for having the most impact on the town, and also could be a group or organization. This poll started to get regional notice with the selection of Tuffy Gessling, the rodeo clown tied in with mocking President Obama act at this year's Missouri State Fair. Suddenly, the poll received national attention in the media as Tuffy won in a landslide victory.

On the morning of Nov. 14, the ATF teamed up with Sedalia, Warrensburg and Warsaw Police as well as the sheriff's offices of Pettis County, Hickory County, Henry County, Johnson County and Benton County to arrest area residents connected to a $1 million drug-trafficking case. This case was the culmination of a two-year investigation and was responsible for getting many area drug dealers and those in possession of drugs off the streets.
