An arts teacher at a prestigious suburban St. Louis school has been charged with sex crimes with a boy whom he met on the gay dating app Grindr.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the charges against 47-year-old Richard Joseph Schwartz Ives, of Kirkwood, include statutory sodomy and sexual misconduct involving a child younger than 15. Authorities began investigating after a Ste. Genevieve County deputy stopped Ives early Wednesday with the boy in his car.

Charging documents say the deputy found 10 $20 bills in the pocket of the boy's sweatshirt. Ives is accused of having the child give a "lap dance" for money.

Officials have barred him from the Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School campus in Ladue while the case is pending. The boy wasn't a student.
