A teacher in Detroit is getting an education in how not to intervene.

A teacher in the city's Pershing High School has been fired after she broke up a fight between two students with a broom.

The two boys were involved in an ugly tussle, which you can see above, when the teacher gets involved by apparently hitting a student on the back with the broom several times.

Eventually, another student separated the two boys.

So, why was the teacher let go? Teachers are required to contact security when a conflict like this breaks out, but this teacher's walkie talkie was not working at the time of the incident.

One of the students involved in the brawl says the fired teacher was one of his favorites, but he does not feel he's at fault for her being terminated because she should've waited for security to come to the classroom.

Both students involved in the fight were suspended for 10 days.
