Authorities say a suburban Chicago physical education teacher was stabbed to death by her husband, who was later killed when he walked onto a nearby interstate.

Plainfield Police Chief John Konopek said police doing a welfare check Tuesday found 47-year-old Sue Cunningham. She was taken to Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities didn't give a reason for the attack.

Konopek says 46-year-old Craig Cunningham called a relative and allegedly admitted to killing his wife, adding he was going to kill himself.

Konopek says the man walked into northbound traffic on Interstate 55 and was struck by two vehicles. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Plainfield District 202 spokesman Tom Hernandez says Sue Cunningham taught physical education and health at Plainfield's high schools.
