Teen Fatally Shot Near Van Horn High School Was a Student

Suburban Kansas City police are investigating the shooting death of a 16-year-old in the driveway of a home near his high school.

The Kansas City Star reports that the shooting was reported shortly before 2:40 p.m. Monday just east of Van Horn High School. The name of the victim wasn't immediately returned, but the Independence School District says the victim was a Van Horn student.

District spokeswoman Jana Corrie says extra counselors will be made available.
