The University of Central Missouri Department of Music will host a concert by The Lake Cottage Duo at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, in Hart Recital Hall.

The Lake Cottage Duo, featuring Juanita Becker, piano, and Sheri Mattson, oboe, performs classical art music from the 17th century to the present day. The duo has performed together more than 15years, meeting as doctoral students at Florida State University. They will present the music of women composers and standard works for oboe and piano.  They have performed throughout the Midwest and have released a CD titled “Dutch Music for Oboe and Piano” on the Centaur Label.
The duo’s name comes from their favorite rehearsal venue, a cottage on Lake Superior.
Mattson is professor of double reeds in the Department of Music at the University of Central Missouri. She earned degrees in oboe performance from the University of Wisconsin – Superior, Arizona State University and Florida State University.
Becker, a collaborative pianist and harpsichordist, is professor piano and music theory at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee. She graduated from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and the University of Wisconsin-Madison with degrees in piano performance.
The performance is free and open to the public. The Lake Cottage Duo is presented in cooperation with the Performing Arts Series at UCM.  Financial assistance for this project has been provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
